Backcountry Skiing in Prince William Sound
Although Prince William Sound may be a summer destination for fishing, kayaking and sight-seeing, the winter offers tremendous backcountry skiing opportunities. Whether you access the terrain from your boat or one of the many Forest Service Cabins, you’ll be sure to enjoy the deep and stable snowpack well into the spring.
Perhaps the best skiing is accessed through Goose Bay and Culross Island, along with Shrode Lake. Public Use Forest Service Cabins are easily accessed by beach at the Pigot Bay and Goose Bay, and the Shrode Lake cabin is accessed by a 3-mile hike. Backcountry travel is right out the door of your cabin, and some of the best treed runs and glade skiing in the state can be skied with over 2000 feet of vertical.
Nowhere else can you truly ski “sea to summit”!”
